MathBrush is a sophisticated application designed for iPad and iPhone that offers users the ability to recognize and manipulate mathematical expressions drawn by hand. Unlike basic math tools, MathBrush accommodates a variety of mathematical concepts, including variables, functions, polynomials, integrals, and matrices.

The app provides functionality for saving expressions for future reference or exporting them for use in documents or websites. Users can export their work in multiple formats including LaTeX, MathML, and image files. This versatility enables users to share their expressions effortlessly via email, AirDrop, Messages, or any other supported sharing applications on their devices. Additionally, MathBrush facilitates collaborative work by allowing users to share MathBrush sheets (.mbs) which can be opened on other devices equipped with the app.

MathBrush integrates a Computer Algebra System (CAS) powered by SAGE to assist users in manipulating their expressions and deriving results. The application dynamically suggests applicable operations based on the type of expression being worked with. Among the operations available are factoring, expanding, differentiation, plotting, and finding determinants as well as eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Users can also register for a free trial of the manipulation features without any obligation to subscribe.

Furthermore, MathBrush enables users to train its recognition capabilities through the creation of custom handwriting profiles. This feature supports multiple profiles that can be easily switched to suit the user’s preferences. Users can update their profiles at any time by adding new symbols or modifying existing ones.

The free version of MathBrush allows for the entry of expressions consisting of up to 25 strokes along with the manipulation capabilities offered during the trial period. However, users wishing to write larger expressions or utilize sharing features will need to make a purchase.
